Position Summary
Responsible for building database systems of high availability and qualitydepending on end user’s specialized role. Also responsible for designing andimplementing databases in accordance to end users information needs andviews. Ensures that all our databases are consolidated under one management line for better accountability, data consistency, backup and recovery. Ensures that data is available, protected from loss and corruption, and easily accessible as needed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Data Management
keeps the database up and running smoothly 24/7 considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users
Builds database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialised role
Provides proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
Determines, enforces and documents database policies, procedures and standards
Responds in a timely manner to user-reported errors
Suggests changes and improvements for maintenance or protection
Regularly liaises with ICT members (software, BAS and SNU)
Designs databases with both front-end and back-end users in mind
Maintains awareness of trends and developments in database administration
Software installation and Maintenance
Collaborates on the initial installation and configuration of a new Oracle, SQL Server etc database
Handles the transfer of data from the existing system to the new platform
Monitors database performance, implements changes and applies new patches and versions when required; identifies problems that arise
Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading
Efficiently imports large volumes of data that have been extracted from multiple systems into a data warehouse environment
Cleans external data and transforms it to fit the desired format so that it can be imported into the central repository
Protects the database against threats or unauthorized access
Database Backup and Recovery
Creates backup and recovery plans and procedures based on industry best practices
Uses existing backups to restore lost information to the system in case of any server failure or data loss
Uses high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data
Minimises database downtime and manages parameters to provide fast query responses
Ensures that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss
Security & Authentication
Performs tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
Implements best practices of information security
Consults audit logs to see who has done what to the data
Controls who has access to data
Protects the database against threats or unauthorized access
Capacity Planning
Analyzes usage level (capacity), storage space in server and backup
Assesses our client's database and data size in order to predict future database needs and storage
Reports on metrics regarding usage and performance
Performance Monitoring & Database Tuning
Monitors databases for performance as part of the on-going system maintenance
Makes necessary configuration changes to software or add additional hardware capacity in case system is slowing down
Analyzes performance monitoring results and ensures tweaking database where need to operate as efficiently as possible
Proactively tunes systems based on application and usage instead of waiting until a problem arises
Troubleshooting
Restore lost data or correct an issue to minimise damage,
Understands and responds to problems and restores lost data in a timely manner
Ensures corrective actions are taken to minimize damage
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualifications:
University Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer & Communication Engineering or any relevant field
Advanced certification as an MCDBA or MCSD for .NET is a plus
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in English and Arabic; French is a plus
Proven working experience as a Database Administrator
Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications
Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL
Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding
Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third party tools
Familiarity with programming languages API
Proficiency in data manipulation languages, including MS SQL, Oracle Database, Hadoop, or PostgreSQL.
